Leadership Journey

Three chapters, one long lesson

These are less about the titles and more about what each one quietly taught me — about people, teamwork, and how I like to show up.

  1. Learning to Represent Others

    role — Section Captain

Chapter 01 · Where it started

My first taste of what it means to speak up for a group. I ran messages between my classmates and teachers, helped organise everyday things, and slowly learned that being heard by others starts with actually hearing them first.

Leadership isn't loud. It usually looks like paying attention when no one else is.

  2. Supporting and Organising

    role — House Vice Captain

Chapter 02 · Behind the scenes

This role taught me the unglamorous half of leadership — planning, checklists, running around before events, and making sure the people leading the front had everything they needed. I learned how much a team leans on the people quietly holding it together.

Sometimes the most useful thing you can do is make someone else's job easier.

  3. Leading a Team

    role — House Captain

    Chapter 03 · Where I am now

Standing in front of a house full of people you're now responsible for is a very different feeling. I'm learning how to make decisions I'm not sure about, own the ones that don't go perfectly, and share the wins as loudly as I share the effort.

You grow the fastest when you say yes to something slightly bigger than you feel ready for.

My Bookshelf

Some books stay on shelves. Others stay with you.

Pull one out — every book on this shelf is a little window into how I think, what I love, and what I'm still figuring out.

Hands, third try

Graphite, a rainy Sunday

The first two were stiff. This one finally looked like a hand that was about to do something.

Leadership

What being House Captain taught me about listening

Leadership isn't about the loudest voice in the room — it's about hearing the quiet ones too.

I used to think leading meant having the answer first. Then a shy girl in my house suggested a whole event idea in one sentence, and nobody heard it but me. We ran her idea. It went better than mine would have. Now I count how many people spoke before I do.

Reflection

The books that shaped my Grade 8 year

A short list of stories that made me pause, question, and dream a little bigger.

Little Women taught me ambition isn't rude. Good Girl, Bad Blood taught me that asking one more question is usually the brave thing. The Secret Garden taught me that things grow back if someone keeps showing up for them. Books did more for my confidence this year than any pep talk.

Why I sketch every week

How a small daily habit taught me patience, focus, and confidence in my own ideas.

Sketching is the only place where being wrong is cheap. A bad line costs me nothing, so I take risks I wouldn't take out loud. Somewhere between page thirty and page fifty, that stopped staying on the paper and started following me into rooms with people in them.
